MAPS 3 - Program Update
Oklahoma City, OK, May 16, 2012 — ADG serves as the Program Consultant for the City of Oklahoma City’s $777 million MAPS 3 program, which includes such responsibilities as creation of the program implementation plan, program scheduling, community outreach, project programming and construction oversight. ADG works closely with the MAPS 3 staff, the MAPS 3 Citizen’s Advisory Board, several citizen subcommittees, the Oklahoma City Council, architects, engineers, consultants and other professionals involved with the projects. Status updates for each of the programs follows.
Downtown Public Park: Acquisition of Upper Park properties is underway with a completion target of this year. Lower Park property acquisitions are to begin in 2014. Demolition of the old Federal Post Office and several other small structures has been completed. Consultants have been selected for environmental and engineering studies, and will soon be announced for the master plan and Phase One design and construction.
Transit / Modern Streetcar: The subcommittee has recommended a route and the proposed route is being investigated for utility and other possible conflicts. The Santa Fe Railroad Station has been recommended as the multi-modal transit hub. Appraisal is currently underway. An engineering consultant will be selected soon.
Convention Center: The Convention Center Site Location Study has been completed. The recommended site is between Reno Avenue and the old I-40 (north and south), and Robinson Avenue and Walker Avenue (east and west). Site appraisals are underway and land acquisition is anticipated to take place in the coming months.
Oklahoma River: Race Course Starting Systems have been ordered and scheduled for fall 2012 delivery. The Race Course Lighting Improvements are in the final design phase with bids expected to be received in June. The Race Course Windscreen study is ongoing. A design consultant will soon be selected for the Whitewater Facility.
Fairgrounds: State Fair staff completed their update to the Fairgrounds Master Plan. The plan was provided to the MAPS 3 Fairgrounds subcommittee for review. Phase 1 design consultant selection has been made and design is underway. Phase 1 construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2013.
Trails: The OKC Trails Master Plan will be utilized as a guide for the MAPS 3 trails projects. Phase 1 has been divided into two trail sections and design firms have been selected. Design is underway. Phase 1 construction is scheduled to begin in late 2012.
Sidewalks: The development of a limited sidewalk master plan is included as part of Phase 1 of the project and is underway. Analysis of sidewalks that are existing, under construction and funded by other sources will be necessary to complete a plan for the MAPS 3 sidewalks. Phase 1 construction is scheduled to begin in 2012.
